EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY
The Natural
Resources Union recognizing the need to promote equality for all its members
hereby proposes the following as a policy of this
1. As a matter of policy, this Component shall
subscribe to the aims and objectives as set in Policy Paper No. 19 of the
Public Service Alliance of Canada as the guidelines for Component Equal
Opportunities Committee.
2. Each Local shall form an Equal Opportunities
Committee which will report to the Local on a regular basis. Each Committee shall establish uniform terms
of reference with a goal to promote equal opportunities and eliminate
discrimination of any kind.
3. The Local executive shall be responsible for
bringing the findings or problems to the attention of the National Council of
the Component and the EO Co-ordinator.
4. Responsibility of Local EO Committee. The Local EO Committee will deal with
fact-finding, problem-identifying and communications regarding EO at a Local
level.
5. The National Council will study the
submissions referred to them by the National Executive, Locals and NRU EO
Coordinator and, in turn, will establish policies and direction for the NRU EO
Coordinator.
6. The NRU Equal Opportunities Coordinator's
responsibilities are to attend to all meetings called by the Alliance EO
Committee and work for the implementation of the National Council's
policies; promptly advise the Component
of problems brought to her/his attention; promote specific training and
education programs, encourage locals to collaborate with other organizations
that deal with equal opportunities, to report to the National Executive all
her/his activities. It is imperative
that the Equal Opportunities Coordinator report to the National Council, which
will establish policies for the Component President to be taken or supported at
the National Board of Directors.
